About CKP Culture and History


(CKP)Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu  is an ethno-religious caste of coastal India from the kshatria sect of people who were mainly comprised of soldiers and warriors. The CKP claim descent from Chandrasen, an ancient kshatriya king of Ayodhya of the Kshatriya Dynasty.

Members of this community are mostly found in certain parts of Maharashtra in India. They are said to be the “brave helpers of Maharashtra” as proclaimed by Shivaji; the founder of the maratha empire. They have been said to originate from the western coastal regions of india.

Some prominent CKPs throughout history

  • Baji Prabhu Deshpande- commander of Shivaj’s armies
  • Sakharam Hari Gupte-responsible for conquering Attock and driving out islamic invader ahmas shah abdali
  • Rango Bapuji Gupte- tried to organise a rebellion against the British in 1857
